MASTERS of THE ART The KUGB have a history second to none: powerful and aggressive fighters; impressive and inspirational kata exponents. Above all, their dignity and protocol remains to this day, a model of Funakoshi Sensei's ideals. This programme contains clips that are in some cases 30+ years old, digitally enhanced and a fine example of the ART of Shotokan. O'Neill, Poynton, Murray, Brennan, Hall and a host of other world class Shotokan fighters, shown here in all their skill, courage and power. You will never see this kind of Shotokan again - the rules of safety have now reduced this potentially devastating art, down to a point scoring exercise between athletes.
CLASSIC DEMONSTRATIONS Some of the demonstrations featured in this programme date back to the early 70's and are possibly the last surviving records of that period. These exhibitions in their day, brought audiences to their feet and created the magic that inspired many people to take up the art of Shotokan. Without doubt, the demonstration by Senseis' Enoeda and Tomita is indeed a classic. Even today, where we often see highly skilled and well choreographed demonstrations, nothing compares with this breathtaking exhibition. There is no mistaking Enoeda's awesome power, and the pain on Tomita's face tells its own story. Another MUST HAVE for any Shotokan student.
